Synthesia pricing: what each plan costs and includes

Synthesia turns a script into a presenter video with an AI avatar. Its pricing mixes a free monthly allowance with credits, which makes the real cost hard to read. This page lays out Synthesia pricing plan by plan, read from the official pricing page on October 22, 2026.

The yearly tab showed Starter at $18 a month with $29 struck through, and Pro at $64 with $89 struck through. Synthesia advertises this as “save up to 4 months with yearly”. Starter includes 1 editor and 3 guests, 125+ stock AI avatars, downloads, logo removal and the AI Video Assistant. Pro adds 5 personal avatars, 5 guests, 180+ stock avatars, branded video pages and interactive videos. Paid plans download MP4 in Full HD, 1920 × 1080.

Earlier on October 22, 2026, while building our HeyGen vs Synthesia comparison, the same page showed Starter at $14 and Pro at $59 a month billed yearly. By our afternoon re-check the yearly prices read $18 and $64. Synthesia may be changing or testing its prices, so treat the yearly figures as a snapshot.

Pro credit levels

Pro is sold at five credit levels. Bigger levels carry a small discount (up to 5%):

Synthesia Pro levels, USD per month, read October 22, 2026
CreditsBilled monthlyBilled yearly
6,000 a month / 72,000 a year$89$64
12,000 a month / 144,000 a year$176$126
24,000 a month / 288,000 a year$347$250
36,000 a month / 432,000 a year$514$370
48,000 a month / 576,000 a year$676$486

At the entry level, Pro works out to roughly $1.48 per extra minute of typical video on monthly billing ($89 for about 60 minutes) and about $1.07 on yearly billing ($768 a year for about 720 minutes). Starter is about $2.42 per extra minute monthly ($29 for about 12 minutes) and about $1.44 yearly ($216 for about 150 minutes). These are our divisions of Synthesia’s own estimates; real usage varies with how much avatar footage each video has.

How Synthesia credits work

Credits are Synthesia’s shared currency for every usage-based feature. The pricing page lists these rates:

  • Video: about 100 credits per minute, counted on the avatar footage generated rather than the finished length. Regenerating a 3-second edit charges 3 seconds.
  • Dubbing: the plan calculator uses 76 credits per minute, while the FAQ says 80 credits per minute with lip-sync and 40 without. Lip-sync uses 2× credits.
  • Surveys: 350 credits per response after the 3 free responses each month.
  • Syren, the AI video agent: a 1-minute video typically uses 1,000 to 2,000 credits, far more than a standard avatar minute.
  • B-roll: generated clips and images are charged per asset, depending on the model; an avatar b-roll asset with action costs 230 credits.

If you run out, video creation pauses until the plan renews, unless you buy extra credits or move up a Pro level. Unused credits do not roll over.

Is Synthesia free?

Partly. The Basic plan is free with no time limit and renews every month: 10 minutes of video creation or dubbing, 3 survey responses and 500 credits. It includes pre-built templates, roleplays and surveys and the Syren agent, but videos carry a Synthesia watermark and are shared by link rather than downloaded. That makes Basic good for testing an avatar and script, not for publishing. We did not find Synthesia’s commercial-use terms for Basic output on the pricing page, so that point is unverified. Other free tiers are compared in AI video free plans.

Add-ons and API prices

  • Learner seats for roleplay training: $29 per seat a month on monthly plans, $25 on yearly plans.
  • Studio Express-1 avatar: a paid add-on at $1,000 a year, for annual plans only, taking up to 10 days to process.
  • Interactive Avatars API: $0.10 per minute for the avatar layer alone; a full-stack option at $0.20 per minute was marked coming soon.
  • Dubbing API: $0.40 per minute voice only, $0.80 per minute with lip-sync.

API usage draws from the same credit balance as your subscription.

Is Synthesia worth the price?

Synthesia is built for company training and internal communication: roleplays, surveys, interactive video, SCORM export on Enterprise and seats for learners. If that is your job, Starter on yearly billing ($18 a month) costs less than HeyGen Creator at $24 a month billed annually in our October 21, 2026 check. If you make marketing or social video, compare it with HeyGen pricing, which sells monthly credits and exports 4K on Pro. If you want generated footage rather than a talking presenter, avatar tools are the wrong category; see Kling AI pricing and Runway pricing.

Before you pay, make one real video on Basic with your own script. Note how many credits it used, then multiply by your monthly output. That number, not the plan name, tells you which Synthesia level you need.

Synthesia vs other AI video pricing

Our HeyGen vs Synthesia page puts the two avatar platforms side by side, and the AI video pricing tracker covers generators and editors. For a use-case picker, read best AI video generator. If you only need to cut long videos into Shorts, an avatar tool is overkill; see Opus Clip pricing.

How we checked Synthesia pricing

We read the Synthesia pricing page on October 22, 2026, on both the monthly and yearly tabs, plus its plan comparison table and FAQ. Per-minute costs above are our own arithmetic on Synthesia’s published estimates. Where the page gave two different numbers, we show both.
