Avatar and presenter video
HeyGen
Good for: Script-to-presenter videos, custom avatars with your own voice, translation into 175+ languages and dialects on paid plans, and Business integrations with HubSpot, Zapier, Make and n8n.
Watch for: Credits per video vary by model and length, and the per-minute rate is not published. Free videos are watermarked and capped at 1 minute.
Price: Free; Creator $29/mo ($24 billed annually); Pro from $49/mo.
Fits: Marketing, YouTube
Text and image to video
Kling AI
Good for: Generated shots for ads and social posts. Paid plans list 1080p/4K generation, watermark removal and commercial use of generated content.
Watch for: Single generations are short (Kling’s blog gives 3 to 15 seconds for Kling 3.0; the membership page lists native 30-second generation for Kling 4.0), so longer videos are assembled from shots. The first-month price rises at renewal.
Price: Basic free; Standard $6.99 first month, then $8.80/mo.
Fits: Marketing, TikTok
Generative video and editing
Runway
Good for: Cinematic B-roll and product shots, with a published credit cost per model. Pro and Max add Seedance 2.5 and unlimited Topaz upscaling.
Watch for: Standard’s 625 monthly credits equal 52 seconds of Gen-4.5. Standard and Pro credits do not roll over.
Price: Free 125 credits once; Standard $12/mo billed annually ($15 monthly).
Fits: Marketing, YouTube
Editor with AI generation
CapCut
Good for: Vertical editing, premium templates and built-in Seedance generation in one app. Pro lists up to 240 seconds at 720p with Seedance 2.0 Mini.
Watch for: AI credits start on Pro. CapCut says displayed prices are for reference only and final pricing appears after sign-in.
Price: Free; Pro USD 19.99/mo; Ultra USD 79/mo.
Fits: TikTok, YouTube
Clipping, not generation
Opus Clip
Good for: Cutting long podcasts, streams and talks into Shorts, Reels and TikToks. In our October 19, 2026 test, 27 of 77 clips were publishable as delivered.
Watch for: It does not create new footage. Credits are charged per minute of source video.
Price: Free 60 credits/mo; Starter $15/mo; Pro $29/mo.
Fits: YouTube, TikTok
We have not run hands-on tests of HeyGen, Kling AI, Runway or CapCut. The only measured results on Scrutator come from our clipping test of Opus Clip and Vugola, described in Vugola vs Opus Clip.
Best AI video generator for marketing
Marketing video splits into two jobs. The first is talking to the customer: product explainers, onboarding, sales outreach and localised versions of the same message. That is HeyGen’s territory. Its paid plans add custom avatars with your own voice and likeness and 175+ languages and dialects, and Business adds a shared workspace, a brand kit, SAML/SSO and integrations with HubSpot, Zapier, Make and n8n. The price to plan around is Creator at $29 a month, or Pro from $49 if you need 4K.
The second job is showing the product: ad B-roll, lifestyle shots and social cutaways. Here you want a generator that makes footage. Runway publishes what its credits buy, which makes ad budgets predictable: Standard covers 52 seconds of Gen-4.5 a month. Kling AI’s paid plans list commercial use and watermark removal and start at $8.80 a month after the first-month offer. Whichever you choose, budget for retries; a shot that needs three attempts costs three times the credits.
Licensing matters more in marketing than anywhere else. Kling’s free Basic plan is listed as not for commercial use, and HeyGen’s and Runway’s pricing pages do not state commercial terms for their free tiers. Use a paid plan, and read the vendor’s terms, for anything a client will publish.
Best AI video generator for YouTube
YouTube creators use AI video in three places. Faceless or presenter videos suit HeyGen, which allows videos up to 30 minutes on Creator and Pro. B-roll and title sequences inside an edit you control suit Runway, whose per-second pricing makes it easy to price a few shots per episode. Shorts from long uploads are a clipping job, not a generation job.
That last case is the one people most often get wrong. If you already have a podcast, stream or tutorial, a generator will not help; you need a clip maker. Our best AI clip makers guide compares clipping tools by source type, and Opus Clip pricing shows what one publishable clip cost in our own test. Streamers should also see the AI stream clipper comparison.
Best AI video generator for TikTok
TikTok rewards speed and volume, so the tool that keeps everything in one place often wins. CapCut combines vertical editing, premium templates and built-in Seedance generation; on October 21, 2026 its Pro plan cost USD 19.99 a month with 1,200 monthly AI credits and up to 240 seconds at 720p with Seedance 2.0 Mini. Kling AI is the other strong choice for short generated clips: single generations are short, which matches the format, and Standard is the cheapest paid generator plan in our tracker.
If your TikToks are cut from your own long videos, use a clipper instead: start with Opus Clip alternatives or the free options.
Generate or clip?
Ask one question before choosing a tool: does the footage already exist? If yes, you need a clipping tool that finds moments, reframes them to 9:16 and adds captions. If no, you need a generator that creates footage from a prompt, an image or a script. Generators are priced per second of output; clippers are priced per minute of input. Mixing the two up is the most common way to overpay. Our AI clipping cost per minute page covers the clipping side in detail.
How to test a shortlist
- Pick two tools from the picker for your use case.
- Write one brief you would really publish: the script, or three shot prompts.
- Run it on each free tier (see AI video free plans compared) and note the credits used.
- Count the outputs you would actually post and divide the plan price by them. That is your real cost per usable video.
- Only then choose annual billing.
This is the same principle our testing method uses for clipping tools: cost per accepted output, not cost per credit.
What this page is based on
Tool features and prices come from each vendor’s pricing page and documentation, read on October 21, 2026 and linked below. Where a vendor page did not state something, such as commercial terms on a free tier, we say so rather than guess. We have not generated test videos with these tools, so this page makes no quality claims about their output. When we do test them, results will be added with the same accepted-clip method we used for Opus Clip and Vugola.
